Wimberley Market Days

Looking for fun <things to do in Wimberley>? Then be sure to check out Wimberley Market Days, the oldest and largest outdoor market in the Texas Hill Country. Market Days is a Wimberley tradition that takes place on the first Saturday of every month (March – December) and features more than 475 quaint shops along shaded trails.

Shop for fresh produce, handmade goods, yard art, vintage furniture and décor, handcrafted leather, homemade jewelry, antiques, baked goods, and lots of other one-of-a-kind items from Wimberley vendors.

Admission is free, and there are plenty of concession options available for purchase. The market hours are from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the park is located at FM 2325 in Wimberley ($3 – $5). Sponsored by the Wimberley Lions Club which uses all proceeds to benefit back to the Wimberley community.

Wimberley Square

If you are not in town for Market Days, you should definitely hit the shops all over Wimberley, but especially downtown on what locals call the Wimberley Square. Park and walk around the square to check out boutiques, art galleries, gift shops, home decor, plant shops, toy stores, and so much more. Stay all day and enjoy lunch by the creek at one of several great restaurants.

EmilyAnn Theater Butterfly Festival

The EmilyAnn Theater Butterfly Festival is a free annual Wimberley event. Bring the whole family out to watch butterfly releases and enjoy crafts and other fun butterfly-related activities. Live music, on-site concessions, a flight house, face painting as well as attractions like interactive activities, gardens, and walking paths.

Wimberley Pie Festival

The annual Wimberley Pie Social is an event sponsored by the Wimberley Institutes of Culture. Wimberley is known for its small-town charm, and the Pie Social is a great opportunity to experience that atmosphere firsthand.

The festival includes a pie contest for adults and children, as well as a variety of other activities such as live music, games, food, art, and a pie-eating contest. Enter your pie for judging or just come and buy a slice (or two) and enjoy a good old-fashioned event for the entire family!

Memorial Day Rodeo

This annual Wimberley rodeo is held every Memorial Day weekend. Events include bull riding, calf roping, mutton bustin’, saddle bronc riding, team roping, tie-down roping, and Cowgirl’s barrel racing and breakaway roping. This Texas pro rodeo, 2-day event is held on the VFW #6441 arena grounds. Parking is free and food, snow cones, and concessions are available.

General admission tickets are available for purchase at the gate with limited presale box tickets being offered. BYOB, y’all!

Fourth of July Rodeo

Put this Wimberley rodeo on your Wimberley Things To Do this summer! Once the world’s largest rodeo, this hill country annual event still ranks near the top. For just $15 you can enjoy one of the best small town rodeos in Texas, the Wimblery Fourth of July Rodeo showcases bareback riding, saddle bronc, steer wrestling, and all the other events that make rodeos great including the much-anticipated bull riding.

Even the kids get to participate with the popular mutton bustin’. Also, don’t miss the legendary Leon Coffee, one of the best rodeo clowns around. The festivities end with a fabulous fireworks display under the Texas stars which can be seen from miles away. The perfect ending to a perfect evening! Held on the VFW #6441 fairgrounds at 401 Jacobs Well Road (CR 182) in Wimberley.

Wimberley’s fireworks extravaganza fills the Texas starry night

Fourth of July Parade

If you’re in Wimberley, be sure to check out the Best Little Parade of Texas! It’s one of the highlights of the year, and it’s not to be missed! There’s plenty of fun to be had for everyone, so come on out and enjoy the festivities – parade contestants vie for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes in several categories including Best Decorated Float/Car/Truck and Most Patriotically Decorated Vehicle among other categories.

The parade begins at 10 a.m. and is sponsored by the Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce. This little parade has been featured in several Texas publications and brings in spectators from across the area from Austin to San Antonio. Bring your lawn chairs or a blanket, a cooler of drinks, and get there early (Wimberley locals can be seen setting up camp around 8 am).

Bat Festival

Did you know that Wimberley is home to one of the largest colonies of Mexican free-tailed bats in the world? Wings Over Wimberley is a bat festival and a Wimberley tradition that you won’t want to miss! This two-day event features local artists, live music, delicious food, and fun for the whole family. Don’t miss your chance to watch the bats fly out from under the Cypress Creek bridge at dusk!

EmilyAnn Theatre & Trail of Lights

Wimberley is a wonderful place to enjoy the holiday season! The EmilyAnn Wimberley Trail of Lights features lighted exhibits throughout the 8 acres of festive exhibits. Live entertainment, a yule log, hot chocolate, and marshmallows as well as a visit from Santa Claus ensure you and your loved ones will be filled with Christmas cheer. Concessions and light-up toys are available for purchase on-site and the exhibit is free, but donations are greatly appreciated. All proceeds benefit the EmilyAnn Theatre.

Wimberley Glassworks

Another fun activity in Wimberley is the glass blowing demonstration at Wimberley Glassworks on RR 12. This glass shop is famous for its beautiful installations and hand-blown glassware, lamps, decor, and Christmas decorations. The glass blowing demonstrations are Thursdays through Sundays, 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Watch how fascinating the hand-blowing process is right before your eyes!
